About

This course focuses on improving on all four skill areas of English: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Special emphasis is placed on recognizing and communicating through common words used in English. The fifth unit of this course is designed to incorporate TED speeches to help ELL students improve their English and cultural understanding in five ways: listening, reading, culture, speaking, and writing. Listening Comprehension: You'll listen to recordings or videos of TED talks and complete related exercises to test your listening skills. After listening, you'll need to summarize and answer questions. Reading comprehension: The teacher will provide the text, and you'll need to read and understand the speaker's ideas and perspectives. Cultural understanding: TED talks often cover important cultural issues, allowing you to learn about different cultures and ways of thinking. This can be especially helpful when discussing sensitive topics or cultural differences. Oral practice: You'll simulate TED speeches in class to practice your speaking skills and share your own thoughts and experiences. Writing exercise: You'll write an essay about a TED talk, discussing the speaker's ideas and views. This will help improve your writing skills by using new vocabulary and words from the speeches.
